BR-06: seller name is missing

Error code BR-06 means: the seller’s legal name is not on the invoice.

Rule set: EN 16931 · Severity: error (fatal): an Access Point rejects the invoice · Checked against the official rules of May 2026

What does BR-06 mean?

The validator shows this message (as worded in the official rules):

[BR-06]-An Invoice shall contain the Seller name (BT-27).

An invoice must contain the seller’s name (BT-27). In UBL that is the legal name in the supplier’s cac:PartyLegalEntity/cbc:RegistrationName. A trading name in cac:PartyName is not enough: the rule looks at the legal name.

Common causes

  • The export only fills in the trading name (PartyName) and leaves RegistrationName empty.
  • The company details in the software are incomplete.
  • A custom XML template omits PartyLegalEntity or only fills in the company number there.

How to fix it as the sender

  1. Enter your company’s legal name in the company details of your software.
  2. Make sure the export puts that name in cac:PartyLegalEntity/cbc:RegistrationName.
  3. Validate the invoice again.

    </cac:PartyLegalEntity>
  </cac:Party>

    ...

      <cbc:RegistrationName>Leverancier BV</cbc:RegistrationName>
      <cbc:CompanyID schemeID="0208">0123456749</cbc:CompanyID>
