Why these Peppol tools?

Belgium made structured e-invoicing between businesses mandatory from 1 January 2026, and more and more countries use Peppol for e-invoicing. In practice, most questions come down to two points: is my invoice technically correct, and can my customer receive it? With these two tools you find out yourself in seconds, without an account and without installing software.

How does the e-invoice validator work?

The validator checks your invoice in two steps. First the structure: does the file match the official XML schema (XSD), with the right elements in the right order? Then the business rules: the official Schematron rules of OpenPeppol and of the European standard EN 16931, the same rules Access Points use to check documents. Both checks run entirely in your browser. Your invoice is therefore not sent anywhere, which is useful for documents with confidential data.

  • Automatic detection: the validator picks the right rules based on the document
  • Beyond Belgium too: XRechnung, Factur-X, FatturaPA, Facturae, KSeF, ebInterface and more. See per country what the validator checks
  • All Peppol documents: invoices and credit notes (BIS Billing 3.0), self-billing, EN 16931 and the ordering and delivery documents
  • Outdated versions: also test against the previous release of the rules, useful during a transition
  • Invoice view: a readable version with parties, lines, VAT breakdown, totals and payment details, built from the XML and downloadable as a PDF

How does the Peppol checker work?

Every company that wants to receive via Peppol is registered in the SML, the central address book of the network. The checker looks up the Belgian company number there, both as company number (scheme 0208) and as VAT number (scheme 9925). If it is found, the checker asks the service provider’s SMP which document types the company can receive.

What the tools do not do

The validator checks the structure and the official business rules, but not the additional checks of national platforms such as the SdI in Italy, KSeF in Poland or the PPF in France, nor digital signatures. For some formats we only check the structure; per country you can see what is and is not covered. The checker shows what is in the Peppol registries, not whether the law requires a company to receive. We use the most recent publicly available rules. The result is an aid, not a guarantee that every recipient or Access Point will accept a document.

About the book

The tools come from the authors of E-facturatie Ontcijferd, a practical handbook on e-invoicing and Peppol in Belgium, from legislation and XML to day-to-day practice. The book is available in Dutch.
