What is a UBL or Peppol viewer?

A UBL viewer, also called a Peppol viewer, is a free tool that turns an XML e-invoice into a readable invoice. A Peppol invoice is structured data in the UBL format. Accounting software reads it automatically, but you only see code. The viewer shows the same data as a normal document: supplier, customer, lines, VAT and totals.

What this Peppol viewer does on top

  • Any UBL invoice: Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, but also XRechnung, Dutch SI-UBL and other EN 16931 e-invoices in UBL.
  • Attachments: PDFs and other files inside the invoice can be downloaded separately, stamped as an attachment rather than the original.
  • Checked straight away: below the invoice you see whether it meets the official Peppol and EN 16931 rules.
  • Local: everything happens in your browser. Your file goes nowhere.

Open an XML invoice in three steps

  1. Drop the XML file into the box above, or click to choose a file.
  2. You see the invoice as a normal document: supplier, customer, lines, VAT and totals.
  3. Click Download as PDF to keep or forward it. Attachments inside the invoice (for example a PDF copy or a timesheet) can be downloaded separately.

Which files can you open?

  • UBL invoices and credit notes under Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, used across Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore
  • E-invoices in UBL syntax that follow the European standard EN 16931
  • Self-billing invoices and other Peppol documents such as orders and despatch advices

A Peppol invoice is not a PDF but structured data that accounting software reads automatically. When you want to read, check or archive it yourself, this viewer turns it into a clear document.

Your invoice stays with you

The viewer runs entirely in your browser. The file is not uploaded to our server or to anyone else and is never stored, so you can safely open confidential invoices.

Is the invoice correct as well?

The same tool checks the invoice against the official Peppol and EN 16931 rules. Errors and warnings appear right below the invoice.

Frequently asked questions about the UBL viewer

How do I open an XML invoice?

Drop the XML file into the viewer at the top of this page. Within seconds you see the invoice as a readable document that you can download as a PDF.

Is the PDF a valid invoice?

Usually not. Where e-invoicing is mandatory, as in Belgium since 1 January 2026, the XML file is the legal invoice. The PDF is a readable view for checking or sharing.

Do I need to install anything or create an account?

No. The viewer is free and works in any recent browser, including on your phone.

What if the invoice contains errors?

They are listed below the invoice, with the rule that fails. Pass this on to the supplier so they can correct the invoice.
