Error code BR-62 / BR-63 means: the Peppol address of the seller (BR-62) or the buyer (BR-63) has no scheme, such as 0208.
What does BR-62 / BR-63 mean?
The validator shows this message (as worded in the official rules):
[BR-62]-The Seller electronic address (BT-34) shall have a Scheme identifier.
[BR-63]-The Buyer electronic address (BT-49) shall have a Scheme identifier.
The electronic address of the seller (BT-34) and of the buyer (BT-49) is in cbc:EndpointID. The schemeID attribute states what kind of number it is. For Belgian businesses, that is usually 0208, the company number. Without a scheme, an Access Point does not know how to look up the address, which is why it is mandatory. BR-62 is about the seller, BR-63 about the buyer.
Common causes
- A custom XML export writes the company number without the
schemeIDattribute. - The scheme is in another attribute, such as
schemeAgencyID, instead ofschemeID. - The customer record has no Peppol address, so the software leaves the scheme empty.
How to fix it as the sender
- Put the scheme in the
schemeIDattribute, for exampleschemeID="0208"for a Belgian company number. - Use the number without dots or country code as the value, such as
0123456749. - Check with the Peppol ID lookup under which scheme your customer is registered, and validate again.

Example in the XML
❌ Wrong
<cbc:EndpointID>0123456749</cbc:EndpointID>
✅ Correct
<cbc:EndpointID schemeID="0208">0123456749</cbc:EndpointID>
Both snippets come from a complete test invoice that we checked with our validator: the wrong version gives exactly this message, the correct version no errors at all.
Good to know
If there is a scheme but its value is not valid, you get a different message: PEPPOL-EN16931-CL008 or BR-CL-25. The scheme must come from the official EAS code list.
