Our free FatturaPA validator checks an Italian electronic invoice against the official FatturaPA 1.2 schema. It handles both the FPA12 and the FPR12 transmission formats, and also signed .p7m files. Drop your file below, because the file never leaves your browser.

What does the FatturaPA validator check?
- Structure: first, we check the XML against the official FatturaPA 1.2 schema, such as the right elements in the right order, with valid data types, dates and amounts.
- Both formats: Italian public administrations receive FPA12, while private parties use FPR12. Moreover, the validator recognises which one you have.
- Signed files: in addition, we extract the XML from a signed .p7m file and check it. However, we do not check the signature itself.
For FatturaPA, however, there is no public Schematron rule set like the one for Peppol. Instead, the Italian exchange system SdI applies its own checks on top of the schema. We therefore check the structure only. For the official specifications, see fatturapa.gov.it.
What is FatturaPA?
FatturaPA is the Italian XML format for electronic invoices. In Italy, every invoice goes through the Sistema di Interscambio (SdI) of the tax agency, which checks it and then passes it on to the buyer. First, Italy made e-invoicing via SdI mandatory for public administrations in 2014 and 2015. Then, in 2019, it also became mandatory for invoices between businesses.
What the FatturaPA validator does not check
We do not perform the SdI checks, such as the validity of VAT numbers and tax codes, duplicate invoices or the recipient code. Furthermore, we do not check the digital signature. The result is therefore an aid, not a guarantee that SdI will accept the invoice.
Frequently asked questions about the FatturaPA validator
Is the FatturaPA validator free?
Yes. Moreover, you need no account, because we process the file only in your browser.
Can I check a signed .p7m invoice?
Yes. First, we take the XML out of the .p7m file. Then we check it against the schema. However, we do not check the signature itself.
Does the validator also check Peppol invoices for Italy?
Yes. With Italy selected, we also check a Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 invoice with the Italian Peppol rules included.
Belgian customer?
Invoices to Belgian businesses travel via Peppol in the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 format. For those invoices, use our Peppol validator instead, because it applies the official Peppol rules.
